Redi-Therapeutics: Hand Sanitizer

This wearable sanitizer device by Redi-Therapeutics started as a hygiene product and quickly became a stylish accessory crucial to preventing the spread of germs. Redi features a modular accessory that focuses on wearability and ease of use, while also incorporating a variety of expressive colors. By creating a design that accommodated the unique preferences of users it effectively increased the likelihood for individuals to incorporate hand sanitizing into their daily routine, ultimately contributing to better public health practices.

Redi-Therapeutics engaged with Acorn to enter the hand sanitizer space. Together, we executed a concept development plan that resulted in an imaginative and user-focused design that would stand out on the market. While the original concept focused on hand sanitization in a medical setting, Acorn's expertise in user experience (UX) and color, material, and finish (CMF) design shifted the product from an occupational necessity to an appealing personal item, encouraging widespread adoption.

Through user interviews, market research, and workflow analysis, Acorn’s UX designers identified core user needs, such as ease of use, comfort, and portability requirements. This guided the design process to ensure the device could be easily integrated into a user’s daily routine. By focusing on wearability and intuitive interaction, the design not only promoted the use of hand sanitizer but also made it more accessible and desirable.

The transformation of the device's CMF treatment was a turning point. Originally envisioned as a purely medical product, Acorn's design team elevated it to a fashionable accessory by selecting expressive colorways and materials. Meanwhile, our Mechanical Engineers focused on manufacturing and component packaging, to ensure a smooth handoff into the production phase.

The final design was an ergonomic success featuring an “addictive” activation method and a modular accessory that accommodated a variety of scenarios.

 
 
 

Conclusion

Our development efforts concluded with solid surface master modeling, mechanical prototype development, engineering detailed design, prototype supplier sourcing, design finalization, color, material, and finish application. Acorn is proud to have been part of an effort that enhances public health and safety by reducing germ transmission for essential workers and consumers alike.
